The Bell in Hand on Union Street in Boston was established in 1795. In the past centuries it has only closed once, and that was during the federally mandated Prohibition. The bar offers a colonial vibe, and you will be in awe as you drink and dine in an establishment that once served Paul Revere, Daniel Webster, and William McKinley. You will find a mix of generations ranging from young professionals to locals, and tourists from around the world.
Tavern on Main Street in Abingdon, Virginia was established in 1779. It is located in the oldest building in the city, and is the same thing today as it was when it originally opened, a tavern and an inn. Over the years in between it was a few other establishments such as a bank, a private home, a general store and even a barber shop. During the Civil War it was even a makeshift hospital for wounded soldiers. Since it has passed hands many times over the years, there are clear pieces of its history located throughout. It’s amazing that The Tavern returned to its roots as it again serves up quality food and a cold one to its thirsty clientele.
